A BYU student was arrested this past Thursday and may be charged with arranging a sexual rendezvous with a 13-year-old girl he met online.
The student, identified as a 25-year-old man living in Provo, was arrested by the Utah County Sex Crimes Task Force and may face a federal charge of enticing a minor over the Internet.
Police say the man was using an Internet chat site to contact what he apparently believed was a 13-year-old girl and had sexual conversations with an undercover police officer posing as the girl. The man carried on the conversation for an hour and a half in which time he specified what sex acts he planned to do, what the girl was to wear and where in Orem they were to meet, documents say.
A bail hearing was held for the man on Monday in 4th District Court in Provo where bail was set at $5,000 cash or bond.
