WASHINGTON The controversy surrounding a United Arab Emirate company operating U.S. ports will be addressed in a House subcommittee this week based on the request of several of its members, including Rep. Jim Matheson, D-Utah.
Matheson, a House Financial Services Committee member, signed a letter sent by the committee's Democrats to Chairman Michael Oxley, R-Ohio, calling for a hearing on how the Committee on Foreign Investments in the United States permitted Dubai Ports World to manage ports in New York, New Jersey, Baltimore, Philadelphia, New Orleans and Miami.
Matheson, along with Rep. Carolyn Maloney, D-N.Y., ranking member on the Domestic and International Monetary Policy, Trade and Technology Subcommittee and Rep. Barney Frank, D-Mass., ranking member of the Financial Services Committee, wrote that they are concerned about the security implications of the deal.
The Subcommittee on Domestic and International Monetary Policy, Trade and Technology will hold a hearing Wednesday looking at the Committee on Foreign Investments process.
