The Utah Athletic Foundation could get the green light to sell off some of the land at the 386-acre Olympic Winter Sports Park near Park City under a resolution passed by the Utah House on Friday.
The foundation was initially created in a partnership with the state but is now a private organization that runs the state-constructed Olympic bobsled, luge and ski jumping facilities near Kimball Junction. The foundation wants to build a 300-room luxury hotel on the site to increase revenues.
House Joint Resolution 30 clears the way to get the hotel built by allowing the foundation to negotiate the sale. Resolution sponsor Rep. David Ure, R-Kamas, said the state has a vested interest in making the Winter Sports Park more viable.
The House passed the measure 59-0. It now moves to the Senate for consideration.
