An anti-bullying resolution passed the Legislature Thursday.

SCR1, sponsored by Sen. Patrice Arent, D-South Cottonwood, calls on educators, parents and others worried about the matter to develop a way to identify and help victims of bullying and create safer school environments. It also encourages targeting bullying through a statewide coalition.

"It's a strong statement, and it's one I believe needs to be made," said House sponsoring Rep. Ronda Rudd Menlove, R-Garland. "We see this as a first step toward eliminating bullying in our schools," and related problems including dropouts, skipping school and academic failure.

The resolution heads to Gov. Jon Huntsman Jr. for his signature.
