May I suggest to Cyndy McMullin (Readers' Forum, Feb. 20) a few reasons why "people in this country just don't get" that we're at war? With few exceptions, most Americans' lives are no different because of the war. We are not asked to do anything to support it. Our taxes have not increased. We do not conserve energy or anything else. In fact, we've been asked to continue on as if nothing has changed.
I assume the absence of sacrifice is intentional. If the current generation of Americans, instead of future generations, were expected to pay the true price of the war, many who supported this strategy to eliminate terrorism would never have offered their support.
