Robin Riggs, vice president of the Salt Lake Chamber of Commerce, has announced plans to run for the Utah House of Representatives.
Riggs, a Republican, announced Wednesday that he plans to run for the District 48 seat, which Rep. LaVar Christensen, R-Draper, is vacating to run for the U.S. Congress.
"I'm just looking forward to being able to serve where I think I can be very, very effective," Riggs said Tuesday.
Riggs is an attorney who started his career as a staff lawyer to the Utah Legislature. He has also served as general counsel for former Gov. Mike Leavitt and as Utah president of Qwest.
He says he is a social and fiscal conservative who believes that a strong economy that creates high-paying jobs is the only way to solve the state's education and transportation needs.
Riggs also supports school choice and Second Amendment rights.
