More than $197 million worth of requests has been presented to the Salt Lake County Council for funding consideration in the next round of zoo, arts and parks recreation funding.

Twelve major recreation facilities were built in the late 1990s following approval of the original ZAP program by voters in 1996. Voters reauthorized ZAP in the 2004 election.

Later this winter the ZAP Recreation Advisory Board will start reviewing proposals.

The voter-approved ZAP reauthorization takes effect in January 2007.

The original ZAP facilities cost nearly $60 million and funded the following projects: Dimple Dell Recreation Center, Sandy, $9.6 million; Gene Fullmer Recreation Center, West Jordan, $7.7 million; Magna Recreation Center, $5.6 million; Fairmont Aquatics Center, Salt Lake City, $6.7 million; Holladay-Lions Recreation Center, $5.7 million; Centennial Swimming Pool, West Valley City, $3.3 million; County Ice Center, Murray, $6.9 million; Equestrian Park indoor arena, South Jordan, $7.4 million; Vista Park ball fields, Taylorsville, $1.9 million; Big Cottonwood Regional Park, $1.1 million; South Cottonwood Regional Park, Murray, $1.8 million; and Jordan River Parkway improvements, trailhead connections, $3.3 million.
