Driver runs light on Main, nearly hits Young statue
Police wonder if man forgot road 'doesn't go through anymore'

A pickup truck nearly hit the larger-than-life statue of Brigham Young standing directly in the center of where Main Street in Salt Lake City used to run.
At about 9 p.m. Friday, the 21-year-old driver missed the stop light and drove straight toward the statue, going right over two foot-tall curbs, said Salt Lake City Police Lt. Dave Askerlund.
"He apparently forgot that Main Street doesn't go through anymore," he said.
The man was being tested for driving under the influence of alcohol.
Askerlund said the man's truck received extensive damage, as did the large planters on the grounds near the statue.
