A 15-year-old East High School student was critically injured when he was hit by a minivan while crossing the street Friday.
Just before noon, the teenager and two others were standing at a UTA bus stop at the intersection of 1300 East and 700 South.
When the bus stopped, two of the people waiting on the sidewalk got on, said Salt Lake City police detective Robin Snyder.
The teenager however, started to run across the street and he was struck by a minivan driven by a motorist who didn't see the boy, Snyder said.
The student was taken to the University of Utah Hospital with head injuries and a broken pelvis.
There is no traffic signal at the intersection.
