Maylene Ornelas

Mountain View Bruins

Sport: Girls basketball

Class: Senior

Position: 5-foot-6 guard

The numbers: Many feel Ornelas, with a quick step and sharp dribbling skills, is the state's top point guard. She's been the Bruins' floor leader this season and is responsible for many of her teammates' points with her penetration and dishing. In a recent crucial road win at Lone Peak, she scored a game-high 18 points and sank several key free throws down the stretch. In last week's win over Spanish Fork, she scored 12 points and handed out five assists. She's also an excellent 3-point shooter and averages more than 12 points per game for the season.

Jason Chamberlain

Springville Red Devils

Sport: Wrestling

Class: Sophomore

Weight: 125-pound division

The numbers: As a key part of Springville's up-and-coming wrestling program, Chamberlain finished the year with a 50-1 record — with his only loss coming at a regional tournament in Nevada. He won his second straight region title two weeks ago at the Region 7 championships and then went on to win his second straight 4A individual title at last week's state finals. He won all four of his state-tournament matches by technical fall to take the crown with ease. Chamberlain also carries a 4.0 GPA and was a Deseret Morning News Academic All-State selection last year.
