Cardio episode sidelines McLeod against Houston

HOUSTON — The Jazz lost to Houston on Saturday night without usual starting guard Keith McLeod, who went to the hospital Saturday afternoon after experiencing what a team spokeswoman called "indigestion-like chest discomfort."

An EKG exam and other cardio tests performed at Houston's Memorial Hermann hospital proved negative, Jazz trainer Gary Briggs said after Saturday's game.

But before McLeod is cleared to play again, Briggs suggested, he must undergo additional precautionary tests.

"Even though it's more like indigestion kind of thing," Briggs said, "we want to get it checked."

McLeod said he had been feeling "a little bit of pain . . . on and off" for a few days, but he did not tell Briggs about the discomfort Saturday.

"It felt a little bit different," McLeod said, "so I said something to Briggsy about it."

McLeod made it back to the Toyota Center in time for Saturday's opening tip, but Jazz coach Jerry Sloan did think twice about holding McLeod out.

"We don't want to take a chance on anybody," Sloan said. "I don't care what it is. Basketball does not matter. When something comes up that even indicate somebody has a problem, just like I told them, forget about basketball. The other (medical) stuff is important."

With McLeod out, Devin Brown joined Milt Palacio in the Jazz's starting backup — and Utah used its 16th different opening lineup of the season.

BOOZER DOUBLES UP: In his second game back after missing the final 31 games of last season with a foot injury and the first 49 of this season with a strained hamstring, Jazz forward Carlos Boozer logged 12 minutes Saturday and finished with one rebound, two assists and six points on 3-of-3 shooting from the field.

Boozer played six minutes in the second quarter and six in the second half — double what he went in Friday's win at Minnesota, his first game in nearly a year.

"I thought he did OK," Sloan said afterward.

TRADE TALK: Swingman Keith Bogans had four points Saturday while playing his first game for Houston since being acquired Thursday from Charlotte in a deal that sent forward Lonny Baxter to the Bobcats.

After Bogans was obtained, the Houston Chronicle reported Saturday, Rockets coach Jeff Van Gundy announced Houston is actively seeking to trade veteran Derek Anderson.
