WEST VALLEY CITY The Utah Cultural Celebration Center, 1355 W. 3100 South, is seeking volunteers to act as docents, greeters, tour guides and general facilities support during the upcoming exhibit, "The Ten Commandments, Featuring Eight Decades of Paintings by Arnold Friberg," running March 18 through May 26.
Flexible volunteer shifts are available weekday evenings from 5-9 p.m. and all day Saturday until 9 p.m. Morning shifts are also available to assist with school groups. Training will be provided for all volunteers. Volunteers will receive a collectors' pin and two complimentary exhibit tickets to share with family members or friends. Raffle tickets will also be awarded for each volunteer shift worked for a chance to win a signed print by Mr. Friberg but not a print of the Ten Commandments.
The exhibit celebrates the 50th anniversary of the release of Cecil B. DeMille's epic film, "The Ten Commandments" and features local artist Arnold Friberg's "The Ten Commandments" series. Commissioned by DeMille in 1953 after he had seen Friberg's classic 12 Book of Mormon paintings, "The Ten Commandments" series depicts full-scale scenes of the movie that were used for all design elements of the production. Additional pieces from Friberg's personal collection, including a work never before seen by the public, will also be on display.
