PROVO — The family of LDS Church President Gordon B. Hinckley isn't discussing the possibility of chemotherapy yet in the wake of surgery Jan. 24 to remove a cancerous growth from his large intestine, his daughter said Thursday night.

"We're not even talking about that now," said Virginia Pearce, one of President Hinckley's three daughters. "We're focused on getting him over the surgery.

"He's recovering well. The doctors tell us he's on schedule, and he's working hard at getting well."

Pearce, her sister Jane Dudley and their brothers, Clark Hinckley and Elder Richard G. Hinckley of the church's Quorum of the Seventy, were attending a lecture at Brigham Young University in honor of their late mother.

BYU endowed a chair in social work and the social sciences in the name of President Hinckley's wife, Marjorie Pay Hinckley, in 2003. She died in 2004. President Hinckley attended the inaugural annual lecture last year. "He wishes he were here," Pearce said. "This chair is the source of a lot of pride for him."
