"ZORBA," the musical version of "Zorba the Greek," on Tuesday and Thursday, 7-9:30 p.m. both nights, in Studio A of the Rose Wagner Center, 138 W. Broadway (300 South).
Wasatch Theatre Company is producing the show, scheduled to be performed May 11-21. Come prepared with two songs, a ballad and an uptempo number, and be prepared to read from the script.
Specific roles include Zorba, 50s-60s, an engaging actor who sings and dances (he carries the show); Leader, any age, a powerful, dramatic singer; Hortense, an actress in her 40s-50s; Nikos, an actor in his 20s-30s; and Widow, an actress in her 20s-30s. Several ensemble roles are also available.
Most roles require both singing and dancing. All players must be comfortable with movement. The ability to play an instrument is also a plus. The production is being staged as a troupe of performers entertaining themselves at a seaside cafe. Callbacks will be Feb. 13. Initially, rehearsals will be Tuesday and Thursday evenings and Saturdays during the day (446-5657).
"SATURDAY'S VOYEUR 2006," directed by John Caywood, on Wednesday, noon-4 p.m. at Salt Lake Acting Company, 168 W. 500 North. Needed are male and female performers ranging from their 20s-50s.
Come prepared with a traditional Broadway song (no Sondheim or Lloyd Webber). An accompanist will be provided. These auditions are by appointment only (363-0526). Bring a current photograph and resume. Equity and non-Equity players may audition. Rehearsals begin May 1, and play dates are June 6-Aug. 20.
