There isn't a book the Rev. France Davis, pastor of the Calvary Baptist Church in Salt Lake City, doesn't like to read. He has read and enjoyed all types of literature from poetry to science fiction. And he doesn't have favorites.

As a child, the Rev. Davis said he mostly read textbooks and books he was required to read in school.

"I didn't have time for anything else," he said.

But currently the Rev. Davis has plenty of literature on his plate. He said right now he is reading "Selected Poems of Langston Hughes," Tony Morrison's "The Bluest Eye" and "Common Ground," by Howard Thurman.

His favorite types of literature are history and poetry, and though he doesn't have a favorite book, he said his two top poems are Langston Hughes' "Mother to Son" and "Bean Eaters," by Gwendolyn Brooks.

The Rev. Davis has served his congregation at Calvary Baptist since 1974. The predominately African-American church has a membership of nearly 900.

The church was founded in 1892, and the Rev. Davis has served the congregation for longer than any of his predecessors.
