OGDEN — Police have arrested a man in connection with the shooting of a 21-year-old woman and are asking for help in finding the suspect's pickup truck.

Ernest Ford, 51, was booked into the Weber County Jail on investigation of attempted murder.

Investigators believe Ford was with the woman late Wednesday night when they got into an argument.

"There was something that happened that made her leave," said Sgt. Kyle Bosgieter. The woman went to a home near 200 West and Patterson Street in Ogden and Ford followed her, police said.

"He came over in his car, she came out and there was another conversation by his truck. At that point, she was shot," Bosgieter said.

Officers said the woman underwent surgery and remained in critical condition Thursday, with gunshot wounds to her arm and chest.

Police picked up Ford at his home a short time later, but officers have not found his pickup truck. Bosgieter said they consider it key to their investigation into the shooting. The vehicle is described as a 1980 GMC K-2500 pickup truck with Utah license plate 470 WSJ. The pickup is believed to be brown, but may have been repainted green, police said.

Investigators said Ford and the victim had been acquaintances for a couple of months, but were unclear on what sparked the shooting.

"I believe there was some kind of disagreement or argument at least," Bosgieter said. Investigators were questioning possible witnesses Thursday.
