PROVO — Rep. Chris Cannon, R-Utah, will kick off his re-election campaign today at noon with a rally at the Historic County Courthouse, 51 S. University Ave.

Cannon will be seeking a sixth term in the November election. He already has one intraparty opponent in Lehi businessman John Jacob, who is in the midst of a whistle stop tour of the 3rd Congressional District.

Jacob has met with constituents in Ephraim, Richfield, Fillmore and Nephi this week. Today he will appear at 7:30 a.m. at the Cracker Barrel restaurant in Springville and at noon at Jim's Family Restaurant in Orem.

Cannon has faced regular challenges since unseating Democrat Bill Orton in 1996, but he has handily won both primary and general elections.
