President Gordon B. Hinckley of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints is "resting comfortably" following his Tuesday cancer surgery.
The church issued a statement Wednesday saying President Hinckley appeared to be recovering nicely following surgery to remove a cancerous portion of his intestine.
"President Hinckley is resting comfortably. As announced last evening, we expect that he will recover rapidly and resume his normal duties soon," LDS Church spokesman Dale Bills said.
The surgery was performed at LDS Hospital in Salt Lake City. Hospital spokesman Jess Gomez said he was asked not to release any information about President Hinckley's condition.
President Hinckley, 95, has served as president and prophet of the LDS Church since 1995.
