JetBlue Airways Corp., the largest airline operating from New York's JFK International Airport, plans to add flights to 10 new U.S. cities this year, Chief Executive Officer David Neeleman said.

Those routes may be shorter ones as the airline seeks to make the most fuel-efficient use of new, 100-seat Embraer jets, Neeleman said Friday after a presentation to the University of Chicago Graduate School of Business.

The New York-based airline started flights to one of the cities, Austin, Texas, Thursday, and begins service to Richmond, Va., April 6. He declined to name the others.

JetBlue is adding the routes as it takes delivery of 35 new planes this year, including 18 of the Embraer 190s and 17 larger Airbus A320s with 156 seats each. The carrier, which expects to report its first quarterly loss this month, will use the new planes to expand seat and flight capacity as much as 32 percent this year over 2005.

The new cities are likely to be linked to one of the airline's current focus cities, which include New York; Boston; Fort Lauderdale, Fla.; Long Beach, Calif.; Oakland, Calif.; or Dulles, Va., said spokeswoman Jenny Dervin.
