A former Brigham Young University student was charged Thursday with using the Internet to arrange to have sex with a young girl.
Daniel G. Duke, 18, was arrested Jan. 11 when he attempted to meet the "girl," who was, in fact, an undercover agent with the Utah Internet Crimes Against Children Task Force. He had previously mentioned to the girl during an online conversation that he wanted to engage in a sexual relationship with her, according to a statement from the office of the Utah Attorney General's Office.
Duke, from Sandy, was enrolled as a student at BYU last semester but is no longer registered, BYU spokeswoman Carri Jenkins said. "For that reason, no honor code review is taking place."
Duke faces two second-degree and two third-degree felony counts of enticing a minor over the Internet.
His is the first arrest for the task force this year. In 2005, the task force arrested 60 people on charges of enticing children over the Internet, child sex abuse and child pornography.
