MEN'S TENNIS: The Utes will be playing in the ITA Mountain Regional Indoor Qualifier being held at Boise State this Saturday. The teams involved will be competing for a bid to nationals in Seattle on Feb. 17-20. Matches will be played in the Boas Tennis and Soccer Complex starting at 9:30 a.m. with Utah and Boise State playing the first matches.
SWIMMING & DIVING: Senior Sterling Richards and junior Kelsey Patterson have been named the MWC men's and women's divers of the week, respectively, for the fourth time this year. This marks Richards' seventh and Patterson's sixth career weekly awards. Richards won both the 1-meter and 3-meter events against TCU. Patterson won all three diving events she competed in against New Mexico and TCU over the weekend.
Utah State
TRACK & FIELD: Utah State's track teams will host the Utah State indoor track and field invitational on Saturday. Teams competing in the meet include BYU, UVSC (tentatively) and Weber State along with host Utah State. Last week at the Snake River Open, USU's Kathryn Duhadway posted the second-best pole vault mark in school history (12-04) to finish second. DJ Smith had a personal best in the 60 meters to win the event.
MEN'S TENNIS: USU (0-2) will play its first home match of the season on Friday afternoon, hosting Northern Arizona at 2 p.m.
Southern Utah
TRACK & FIELD: SUU's men's and women's indoor track and field teams return to competition this Saturday at the Northern Arizona Lumberjack Invitational Flagstaff. The meet begins at 9 a.m. at J.L. Walkup Skydome on the NAU campus with the women's triple jump competition, while running events will start at 11 a.m., with the women's 60-meter dash preliminaries. The Thunderbirds will compete against NAU, Arizona State and numerous track clubs.
Weber State
ACADEMICS: Weber State placed 36 athletes from five different teams on the 2005 Big Sky Conference All-Academic Team's list. Athletes from football, men's and women's cross country, women's soccer and volleyball were honored. To be eligible, student-athletes must have posted a cumulative 3.2 GPA or higher at the conclusion of the most recently completed quarter or semester and completed at least one quarter or semester.
