Gabrielle Pinegar
Timpview Thunderbirds
Sport: Girl's basketball
Class: Sophomore
Position: 5-foot-6-inch guard
The numbers: After making only five 3-pointers in the T-Birds' first 11 games, Pinegar erupted last week to sink 10 bombs in two games. In Timpview's road win over Springville, she hit six treys in scoring a game-high 21 points. She then kept the T-Birds close at Orem by making four 3-pointers. She leads her team in scoring at just under 10 points per game. Even with more than two seasons left in her high school career, she's already known as the valley's best pure shooter from behind the 3-point line.
Preston Eaton
Springville Red Devils
Sport: Boy's basketball
Class: Junior
Position: 5-foot-10-inch guard
The numbers: Although the Red Devils tend to get lost on the state's basketball radar screen, Eaton does not. Every coach considers him among the state's elite scorers. He's third in the state in scoring and second in 4A at nearly 22 points per game. He leads the state in 3-point field goals made per game, with 34 treys on the season in 12 games. In Springville's road win last week over Lehi, the Red Devils first road region win in seven years, Eaton scored 22 points and made 15 of 17 free throws.
