Midshipman Leland Travis Prince, the son of Leland and Wende Prince, is finishing his first year at the U.S. Merchant Marine Academy in Kings Point, N.Y.

Prince graduated from Orem High School. Sen. Orrin Hatch, R-Utah, nominated Prince to attend the academy.

Air Force Col. Theodore W. Parsons III has been decorated with the Bronze Star Medal.

The medal is awarded to an individual who, while serving in the U.S. armed forces, has performed a heroic act, meritorious achievement or distinguished service during armed conflict or ground combat while engaged against an armed enemy of the United States.

The colonel is the dean of military education consortium assigned to the 59th Medical Wing, Wilford Hall Medical Center, Lackland Air Force Base, San Antonio, Texas.

His wife, Kathryn, is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Thomas E. Hood of Provo.

Air Force Reserve Airman 1st Class Beau D. Walker has graduated from basic military training at Lackland Air Force Base, San Antonio, Texas.

Walker is the son of Mark and Vickie Walker of Salem. He is a 2001 graduate of Spanish Fork High School.
