Rob McDaniel was named Tuesday to oversee the new mission of Granite High School, which is to focus on career and performing arts academies and encompass the district's alternative programs, the Granite Board of Education announced.
"It's a great day at Granite High," read small signs a Granite High student and parent flashed McDaniel's way as he was deemed Granite High School's new principal.
McDaniel is principal of Granite Park Middle School whose phone greeting is "it's a great day at Granite Park" where he has "been very successful . . . doing some great things" in middle-school reform, said Kevin Hague, assistant superintendent of school service.
The change is effective today.
"I think the students and the community of South Salt Lake and those who have been going to Granite High School need to expect more, meaning we will be offering more . . . anticipating the vision and making it a place kids want to be," McDaniel said.
McDaniel will be replaced by Hartvigsen principal John Anderson.
