Nancy Nissalke dies of cancer

Nancy Nissalke, the wife of former Jazz head coach Tom Nissalke, passed away Saturday after a battle with cancer.

Nissalke, a native of Wisconsin, was a drama and English teacher at Wayland Academy in Beaver Dam, Wis., where she met her future husband of 46 years, Tom.

An accomplished operatic singer and theatrical performer, she was the mother of two children, Tom II and Holly Connolly, and grandmother of one, Caroline Anne Connolly.

Tom Nissalke, the 1972 ABA Coach of the Year and 1977 NBA Coach of the Year, coached the Jazz from 1980-82. He also coached NBA teams in Seattle (1973), Houston (1977-79), and Cleveland (1983-84) and coached the ABA's Utah Stars from 1975-76. Tom Nissalke currently is a studio host and analyst for the Jazz's flagship radio station, KFNZ 1320-AM.

A memorial celebration of Nancy Nissalke's life is scheduled for 1 p.m. Friday at Wasatch Presbyterian Church, 1626 S. 1700 East in Salt Lake City.
