Home Depot buys Chem-Dry
President of Logan-based firm praises the merger
Financial terms of the deal between Home Depot and Chem-Dry were not disclosed.
Representatives from Chem-Dry were not immediately available for comment. It is not known how or whether the acquisition will affect the company's Logan operations, or its 4,000-odd franchises.
"In joining The Home Depot, our franchisees the backbone of Chem-Dry will continue to provide high quality service options to their customers, while benefiting from the mutually innovative thinking of these two great companies," Craig Donaldson, Chem-Dry president and chief executive officer, said in a prepared statement.
According to a joint statement released Monday, Chem-Dry will become part of Home Depot's at-home services division, which provides installation of flooring, roofing and cabinetry.
Chem-Dry's leadership team will remain in place and serve as "an integral part of the company's continued growth and operations," the statement said. Over the next few months, a "cross-functional team from both companies" will facilitate the integration of Chem-Dry with The Home Depot.
"Joining forces with Chem-Dry is an important part of our growth strategy to extend into areas adjacent to our core retail business," Bob Nardelli, chairman, president & CEO of The Home Depot, said in a prepared statement. "This acquisition complements our At-Home Services division and underscores the common vision Chem-Dry and its franchisees share with The Home Depot to provide quality products and excellent customer service.
"Chem-Dry's expertise with the franchising model, in addition to its leadership status in the market, provides us with a world-class entry into franchising and carpet cleaning, which are both solid platforms on which to grow."
Home Depot employs about 325,000 workers at its 2,000 stores in the United States, Canada and Mexico. In 2004, it reported $73.1 billion in sales.
Privately held Chem-Dry has 65 corporate employees and 4,000 franchises worldwide.
