PROVO — A fund-raiser for poor Kenyan businesswomen eclipsed its $2,500 goal.

Fro-Yo owner Kara Forrest, a Brigham Young University student who launched the non-fat frozen yogurt store, hosted the event last month.

Forrest presented a check for $318.74 to Yehu Microfinance on Dec. 16. The check represented sales made by the store during the Dec. 8 event.

However, the event raised a total of $3,658.74 because of four large donations, Yehu executive director Troy Holmberg said.

Yehu is an Orem-based charity that provides microloans to impoverished women in Kenya. The money will fund 50 revolving loans, which when paid back with interest will grow over the next five years to create roughly 500 loans for Kenyan women, Holmberg said.
