High Point runs over UVSC

OREM — The Utah Valley State men's basketball team lost to High Point 82-69 on Friday in the McKay Center. The Wolverines led 37-25 at halftime but High Point opened the second half on a 22-4 run to take the lead for good at 47-41 with 13:40 left in the game. The closest the Wolverines came the rest of the way was two points.

"We tried to manufacture energy in the first half," Utah Valley State coach Dick Hunsaker said. "They broke us down early in the second half and we could never get on track. They had their way with us."

Sylvester Allison led the Wolverines with 22 points. Chris Bailey had 15 while David Heck and Ben Devoe each had 10.

For the game High Point shot 55 percent from the field while the Wolverine shot only 40 percent for the game. High Point outrebounded the Wolverines 37-33.

With the score tied at 13 in the first half, UVSC went on a 10-2 run to lead 23-15 following a basket by Allison with 6:05 until halftime. Allison later gave the Wolverines their biggest lead of the game at 37-25 with 40 seconds left in the half.

Utah Valley outrebounded High Point 24-14 in the first half and shot 43 percent from the field compared to High Points 39 percent.

High Point led by as many as 15 points and shot 69 percent in the second half to earn the win.

Utah Valley has a tough three-game road trip over the next two weeks. Next week the Wolverines play at North and South Dakota State followed by a game at Albany on Jan. 14.
