SPANISH FORK The Nebo School District will hold a public meeting on Tuesday to provide patrons with information on proposed school boundary changes.
The proposals will be shared with the public at a meeting starting at 7 p.m. at Spanish Fork High School, 99 N. 300 West, in the auditorium.
The public can sound off on the proposals before the Board of Education votes on the boundaries at its regularly scheduled meeting Jan. 11 at 6 p.m. at Spanish Fork Middle School, 50 N. 900 East.
Boundary realignment is necessary because about 4,000 new students have enrolled in Nebo District over the past five years, and a similar growth rate is expected in the future.
Nebo District will also be moving sixth-grade students to the elementary schools over the next two years and changing to seventh-grade through ninth-grade junior high schools.
The district will be adding one new junior high school, two new high schools, and six new elementary schools during the next four years.
Several area subcommittees consisting of school community council members, PTA presidents, neighborhood representatives, and administrators met to analyze and develop boundary proposals. The committees examined student safety, enrollment trends, building capacities, projected growth, existing boundaries, natural neighborhood and community boundaries, major roads, other natural dividers, and busing issues in developing the proposals.
