Libertarian professor Thomas Sowell is exactly right in declaring "Taxpayer money wasted on cheap politicians" (Dec. 29). He is also correct in describing members of Congress as holding positions of power and responsibility vastly superior to the highest paid CEOs in the country. Federal officeholders ought to reimbursed accordingly. There is certainly something to be said about the adage that we get what we pay for.
Why not consider paying them well as Sowell suggests and removing that process from politics. It can be done. A politician's income would reflect the economy. If there is a recession, their dollars shrink with the average worker's income. With inflation, it increases. When the people's purchasing power increases, so does the politician's.
