African Heritage Dancers perform during a Kwanzaa celebration Monday at the Lincoln Theater in Washington, D.C. Kwanzaa is a Pan-African holiday established in 1966 honoring family, community and culture. The name "Kwanzaa," meaning "first fruits of the harvest," comes from the widest spoken African language, Swahili, and can be traced back to celebrations in ancient Egypt and Nubia.
