SOCCER: Utah State soccer player Liz Masson was recognized recently as a National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA) Regional Scholar Athlete. She becomes just the fourth Aggie soccer player to earn the award as she was named a third team selection.

Utah

SOCCER: Melissa Wayman and Adele Letro of the Utah women's soccer team have earned All-West Region honors from SoccerBuzz magazine. Wayman was named second team All-West while Letro made the All-West freshman team.

Wayman helped anchor the Utes' defense that ranked 24th in the NCAA in goals-against average (.707). The West Valley City native also scored three goals and had three assists. A three-year starter, Wayman was honored as the 2005 Mountain West Conference Defensive Player of the Year.

Letro led the Utes with seven goals and six assists, and scored three game-winning goals. A native of Davis, Calif., Letro was voted the Mountain West Conference Freshman of the Year.

The Utes went 14-7-1 in 2005, won the Mountain West Conference regular season championship for the second time in three years, and advanced to their fourth consecutive NCAA Tournament under head coach Rich Manning.

Westminster

VOLLEYBALL: After leading the Westminster College women's volleyball team from last to first place in the regular season, Kim Norman has been selected by her colleagues as the Tachikara/AVCA NAIA Region I "Coach of the Year." The awards were officially presented at the 2005 American Volleyball Coaches Association Annual Convention in San Antonio on Dec. 15.

Chair of Region I and Concordia University's Athletic Director, Dr. Joel Schuldheisz, "It's really exciting to see Kim's work in the local club community and the volleyball community, and how her success and work ethic have been translated over to Westminster's volleyball program. Whenever any one of our volleyball programs in the region raises their bar of expectation, it improves the entire region."
