Big dogs on sale at Humane Society
From now through the end of the year, the Humane Society of Utah is having a sale on its larger canines any dog weighing 50 pounds or more can be adopted for only $50, which is a 33 percent savings over the regular fee.
"The adoption fee at the Humane Society includes the animal's spay or neuter surgery, the first shots, de-worming, a package of kibble and a leash," Gene Baierschmidt, executive director, said. "Good things may come in small packages, but in this case great things come in big ones. The cost of the sterilization surgery alone for an animal that size would be at least twice as much as this special HSU cost anywhere else."
Large-dog ownership can have many advantages, Baierschmidt said. "A bigger dog makes a great playmate for kids and adults, a wonderful companion for walks and exercising, and a loyal protector of his or her people. The little palm-sized pooches may be cute and stylish, but for plain old-fashioned lovableness, you can't top a big dog. Ninety-nine percent of the package is pure heart."
The Humane Society, located at 4242 S. 300 West, is open for adoptions from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. Monday through Saturday and noon to 4 p.m. on Sundays. For more information, call 261-2919.
