Skyline Drive and Farmington Flats are the best places to go snowmobiling in the Salt Lake Ranger District of the Wasatch-Cache National Forest.
The areas can be accessed from the 400 North exit in Bountiful, according to a news release from the U.S. Forest Service.
Most roads in the district are not maintained in the winter and are closed to all-terrain vehicles and 4-by-4s beginning Nov. 1 each year.
Snowmobiling is well under way in the district, the release says.
Snowmobiling in Tooele County is limited to short out-and-back rides on roads east of the Stansbury Mountains.
In Salt Lake County, all national forest lands are closed to snowmobiling and motorized travel by over-snow vehicles.
For information about snowmobiling in the district to to www.fs.fed.us and follow the links to the Wasatch-Cache National Forest recreation Web site.
The district's winter travel management plan can be obtained at the REI at 3285 E. 3300 South.
Snowmobilers are encouraged to learn about avalanche danger. Call the Utah Avalanche Center at 801-364-1581 or to go www.avalanche.org.
