Utah

VOLLEYBALL: Outside hitters Shelly Sommerfeldt and Airial Salvo continue to garner accolades from the 2005 volleyball season, earning all-region honors from the American Volleyball Coaches Association this week. Sommerfeldt was named to the AVCA all-West Region team while Salvo was West Region freshman of the year in addition to winning honorable mention all-region.

SWIMMING/DIVING: The University of Utah swimming and diving programs made a clean sweep with Jonathan Larsen and Amber Walter being named MWC Men's and Women's Swimmer of the Week, while Sterling Richards and Kelsey Patterson garnered MWC Men's and Women's Diver of the Week.

BYU

VOLLEYBALL: Two Cougars were honored this week by the American Volleyball Coaches Association for their outstanding play during the 2005 season as senior Lauren Richards Evans and junior Lindsy Hartsock were named to the AVCA West all-region team.

Utah State

CROSS COUNTRY: Trever Ball, a senior from Mountain Crest High in Hyrum, became the first Utah State men's runner in history to be named an all-American by the United States Cross Country Coaches Association, it was announced this week. Ball won the Western Athletic Conference individual title and earned league athlete-of-the-year honors this season.

VOLLEYBALL: Zuzana Cernianska was named to the American Volleyball Coaches Association West Region first team, while teammate Erin Graybill was named to the honorable-mention team, it was announced on Tuesday.

WOMEN'S BASKETBALL: USU plays its first home game in 19 days as Air Force visits Logan today at 7 p.m. The Aggies haven't played at home since their season-opener against Montana on Nov. 19.

Westminster

MEN'S BASKETBALL: Westminster College moved up three spots to No. 14 in the latest NAIA Div. I poll released Wednesday. The Griffins (7-3) have four games remaining on their nonconference schedule before their Frontier Conference title defense begins on Jan. 5.

UVSC

WOMEN'S BASKETBALL: Utah Valley State will have two games this week hosting Idaho on tonight at 7:05 in the McKay Center, and then will travel north to Logan to take on in-state rival Utah State on Saturday at 3 p.m. Both games can be heard through a live audio broadcast by going to wolverinegreen.com on Thursday and utahstateaggies.com on Saturday.
