Marc Rayner (Readers' Forum, Dec. 6) was appalled by the article "Alone in the Fold" and urged the parents of Stuart Matis to stop glamorizing his suicide and rally to the cause of changing the LDS Church's policy on homosexuality. Would he have them and other members of the church deny our belief that God sets our standards and policies? We believe The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints is governed by prophets and revelation from God and not by popular demand. Have church policies changed through the years? Of course. Polygamy was abandoned a century ago as circumstances warranted, as well as extending the priesthood to all men regardless of race. Change happens in the church, but not through member activism.
