A family of 10 returned home from church Sunday afternoon to find firefighters busy trying to extinguish a fire.
The blaze at 1391 W. Wasatch Ave. (750 South) began about 1:52 p.m. and caused an estimated $160,000 in damage to the five-bedroom, split-level home, said Assistant Battalion Chief Dennis McKone of the Salt Lake City Fire Department.
No one was in the home at the time, and no one was injured, McKone said.
Three engine companies and a ladder truck responded. It took the 20 firefighters just 20 minutes to bring the fire under control, McKone said.
The fire appeared to have started in the basement. The cause of the fire was still under investigation Sunday night, McKone said.
