The Utah AIDS Foundation turned 20 this year, and it's going to "Paint the Town Red" with a fund-raiser by that name tonight.

The event is hosted by Hotel Monaco and Bambara, 15 W. 200 South in Salt Lake City. Cost is a suggested $5 donation.

Kimpton Hotel, which owns Hotel Monaco, is hosting similar events coast to coast.

In 1985 when the foundation was started, the Utah Department of Health reported 17 people living with HIV/AIDS in Utah, said AIDS Foundation executive director Stan Penfold. The organization formed with a few volunteers and a crisis hotline. It is working to stop HIV infection while providing compassion and services to those who have been impacted by HIV/AIDS.

The education program includes speakers and workshops, HIV testing and screening for sexually transmitted diseases, literature, and an information and referral hotline. The foundation also offers support groups, counseling, a benefits advocacy program and nutritional programs including a food bank and hot meals delivered to the home.
