Bengals overcome Wolverines

POCATELLO, Idaho — The Utah Valley State men's basketball team lost 72-56 to Idaho State on Saturday. Matt Peterson led Utah Valley with 16 points on 7-of-9 shooting from the field. Tika Wesley added 11 points off the bench for Utah Valley and Chris Lang had a game-high six assists.

David Schroeder led Idaho State with 15 points. Utah County native Tim Henry scored 12 for the Bengals. Utah Valley shot 42 percent from the field while ISU finished the game shooting 44 percent.

In the first half, the Wolverines fell behind by as many as 15 points at two different points. Utah Valley did get within 10 points with three minutes left in the half at 28-18 following a basket by Russell Wesley.

The second half was no better for Utah Valley State as they fell behind by 21points five minutes into the second half. Ben Devoe did score the first basket of the half to cut the Idaho State lead to 35-24. Idaho State then went on a 12-2 run to take the 21-point lead.

ISU's biggest lead of the second half was 24. Despite the big deficit, the Wolverines continued to fight and cut the 24 point deficit to 14 at 60-46 following a three-point play by Tika Wesley with 7:18 to play. Fourteen points was the closest the Wolverines came the rest of the way. Utah Valley State (2-3) hopes to pick up its first road win Tuesday night in a 7 p.m. game at the University of Montana. Montana was last year's Big Sky Tournament Champion and advanced to the NCAA tournament. The game can be heard live on 1400 KSTAR.
