Lately, I've been hearing more and more about how preschool is a must. Now people are talking about making kindergarten a full day.
When I was young, my brothers and I didn't attend preschool. Our mother taught us. We had flash cards and alphabet refrigerator magnets. We all did just fine in kindergarten.
For children who don't spend their days in child-care centers, it is too much to go from being at home with mom all day to a full day of school overnight. Half-day kindergarten is a good way for children to gradually transition into a classroom setting.
It is amazing to me that with the funding problems the Utah education system is already experiencing, Gov. Jon Huntsman would even consider making kindergarten a full day.
