Weber rally stops Boise

BOISE, Idaho — David Patten scored 22 points while Coric Riggs had 12 points and 13 rebounds Monday as Weber State claimed a 66-61 nonconference win at Boise State.

Trailing 29-22 at halftime, Weber State (2-0) of the Big Sky Conference went on a 19-5 scoring run in the first six minutes of the second half to pull in front 41-34. Boise State (1-1) of the Western Athletic Conference regained the lead momentarily, 48-47, on back-to-back field goals by Tez Banks. But Weber State was able to pull ahead 58-51 on the scoring of Riggs, who scored 10 of his 12 points in the final seven minutes.

Boise State was led by Coby Karl and Matt Bauscher, each with 16 points. Eric Lane added 11.

Weber State employed a zone defense for most of the game, forcing Boise State into perimeter shots and shutting down its inside scoring. Boise State scored only 18 points inside the key, compared with 30 for Weber State, and managed to shoot only 38 percent from the field for the game.

The Broncos also turned the ball over 18 times during the game.

Weber State, which shot 47 percent for the game, had just four turnovers in the second half, compared with 10 in the first half.
