Comcast will now have competition for Salt Lake City's cable market after city leaders approved Qwest's request to offer cable.

Qwest will not be required to provide cable citywide, however, an exception that Comcast officials say is an unfair advantage to the cable newcomer.

The Salt Lake City Council voted to allow Qwest to enter the market and to allow it to pick which regions will get the new service, which will offer more than 175 channels. Qwest officials are unsure when the new service will start.<
