PLAYER OF THE GAME

Brett Ratliff: Looked like a poised veteran in his first D-I start, completing 17-of-30 for 240 yards and four TDs while adding 112 yards rushing.

PLAY OF THE GAME

BYU running back Fahu Tahi, trying to gain additional yardage after a short gain, has the ball ripped out of his hands by Utah's Casey Evans, who returns the ball 31 yards to the BYU 7-yard line late in the second quarter. Two plays later, the Utes score a TD to go ahead 24-3.

KEY CALL

On BYU's second drive of the game, already behind 7-0, BYU quarterback John Beck hits Matt Allen on what would have been a 40-yard bomb. But there is a flag on the play and Allen is called for offensive pass interference on U. cornerback Eugene Oates. Instead of a 40-yard gain, the Cougars are forced to punt.

QUOTABLE

"This is the sweetest victory that I've ever been a part of." — Kyle Whittingham, Utah head coach

UP NEXT

Both teams are now bowl-eligible, Utah at 6-5, 4-4, and BYU at 6-5, 5-3. The Mountain West has three guaranteed bowl spots (Las Vegas, Emerald and Poinsettia bowls) with five bowl-eligible teams — TCU, BYU, Utah, Colorado State and New Mexico.
