Lauren Hair spent most of her sophomore season sitting on the bench. When the junior striker for Lone Peak finally got a chance to step on the field this season, most people expected she would make an impact. But few realized just how big that impact would be.
Establishing herself as one of the top scorers in the state, Hair netted 25 goals and had 13 assists during the 2005 season. With Hair as the leading scorer, the Knights were the highest scoring team in 5A and swept through Region 4 undefeated. Her performance led her team all the way to the 5A state championship game and has earned her Most Valuable Player honors on this year's Deseret Morning News All-Utah Valley Team.
Often undersized against the defenders she faced, Hair quickly became known as a physical and scrappy player that never backed away from a challenge. Lone Peak coach Mike Lahargoue is probably the only coach in the valley that is excited to see Hair return for her senior season. Her presence should help make Lone Peak a heavy favorite next season as well.
Joining Hair on the All-Valley team are teammates Shantel Flanary, Laura Goodrich and Hailey Brown.
Flanary transferred from Mountain View, where she was already one of the state's top forwards. Her 19 goals were a nice complement to Hair and gave opponents two deadly strikers to worry about instead of one.
Goodrich scored seven goals from the midfield for Lone Peak, a few of them in clutch situations. Her two goals in the final game of the regular season against Timpanogos clinched the region championship, and she scored a critical goal in a first round playoff game against Hillcrest.
Goalkeeper Hailey Brown anchored the Knights defense that allowed 0.95 goals per game. Brown had six total shutouts and allowed only 11 goals in 13 games against local teams.
Timpanogos' junior forward Stacy Bartholomew joins Flanary as an all-valley forward after scoring 22 goals. The multisport standout broke her record of 15 goals a year ago and will be looking to set a new record next season.
Also making the All-Valley team for Timpanogos are defenders Shayla Adams and Megan Richardson. The Timberwolves allowed the fewest goals per game in the valley at 0.89. Richardson also scored seven goals, mostly on corner kicks, including the game-winner in a first-round playoff game against Jordan.
Springville's Karissa Henage scored 13 goals and was deadly on free kicks. She acted as both a forward and attacking midfielder in the Red Devils' 4-3-3 formation and helped her team to a second-place finish in Region 7.
