GRADE A-

Offense

BYU rushed for 267 yards net, including Curtis Brown's 153 yards and two scores. John Beck completed 20-of-29 for a complementary 179 yards to 11 different receivers on a night when he didn't need to go to the air frequently. It may not be the 55 or 62 points of previous weeks, but it was plenty on a chilly night in Laramie.

GRADE B+

Defense

After quick Cowboy touchdowns early in both halves, the Cougar D settled down quite nicely. Take away Wynel Seldon's 69-yard TD run, and BYU held Wyoming to less than 100 yards rushing. The Cougars finished with five take-aways — three fumble recoveries and two interceptions — and stymied a decent passing outing by UW's Casey Bramlet.

GRADE C

Special teams

The Cougars didn't allow any kickoff returns and had a couple fair returns themselves. But BYU has plenty to work on after punts of 16 and 37 yards (followed by a pair of 45-yarders), a missed field goal of 46 yards (with the wind at the back) and a 46-yard Wyoming punt return.

GRADE B+

Overall

A lot of little factors add up to an important outcome — BYU wins a key road game in front of a hostile crowd and in less-than-ideal weather, clinching a winning season and eligibility for a bowl game. The defense created turnovers, the offense scored off the turnovers and the Cougars have smiles all around.
