Voters in counties east of Salt Lake put two newcomers in mayoral seats and re-elected one incumbent.

In Heber, two City Council members battled for the mayor's position, which was open because incumbent Lynn Adams did not seek re-election. David R. Phillips beat Shari Lazenby for the slot with 934 votes to Lazenby's 674.

Heber residents voted in two new City Council members: Jeffery M. Bradshaw and Elizabeth Hokanson. Bradshaw, a CPA, worked for Wasatch County government in the late 1980s and early 1990s. Hokanson has been a citizen planner and a member of the Planning Commission. Bradshaw and Hokanson survived a primary election with 10 City Council candidates and then beat incumbent John Hayes Burns and Michael Thurber in the general election.

Midway elected a new mayor: Connie Tatton took over the post from incumbent Bill T. Probst. Tatton had 441 votes to Probst's 333. Midway sent two unopposed, incumbent City Council candidates to office as well: Colleen Bonner and Gerald L. Hayward got 619 and 496 votes, respectively.
