• "Get a Kick Out of Reading." The new Provo City Library children's reading program has its "kick off" at 4 p.m. with special guest Nelson Akwari. Free.

• Global Awareness Week at Utah Valley State College today: 11:30 a.m. Lunchtime ethics open discussion in LC 243; 6 p.m. International 3-on-3 basketball tournament.

Sweet Treats is the topic of tonight's Cobblestone Kitchen from 6:30-8:30 p.m. at Thanksgiving Point, Lehi. Learn how to make homemade confections like caramel, truffles, peanut brittle, flavored fondants, and ideas on dipping sweets as well. Cost: $30. Call 768-2300.

Children's House International open house on adoption at Thanksgiving Point, from 3-8 p.m. in the Amber room of the Museum of Ancient Life. Workshops will be held including: How to begin the adoption process; international adoption options particularly adopting from China and Guatemala. Call 768-2300. Free.

Utah Valley PAF Users group, will meet from 9 a.m. to noon in the LDS "Red" Church, 4000 N. Timpview Dr. (650 East), Provo. The main presentations will be by Donald R. and Diane M. Snow on "Working with Large Databases: The Early LDS Members Database." Following the Snows there will be breakout sessions. Free.
