Mapleton mayoral candidates

Age: 73

Political experience: The current mayor of Mapleton. Before that, served two terms on the Springville City Council.

Education: Bachelor's degree in math, physics and chemistry (composite) from Brigham Young University; master's degree in math, physics and chemistry (composite) from the University of Utah; master's degree in educational psychology from BYU; an administration certificate from the U.

Occupation: Full-time mayor. He was an educator for 33 years in the Nebo School District as a math and aerospace teacher, a school counselor, principal, district secondary education director and assistant superintendent.

Interesting fact: "I love the outdoors, and I have a private pilot's license, enjoy flying."

Stan Sorensen

Age: 63

Political experience: None beyond education. "My master's thesis was written on Provo City and BYU solving the parking problem, which obviously no one ever read. It's worse than ever."

Education: Bachelor's degree in political science from Brigham Young University; master's degree in public administration also from BYU.

Occupation: Real estate broker. Previously taught business courses at BYU, Southern Utah University, Stevens-Henegar College. Was an administrator at Stevens-Henegar.

Interesting fact: Has run three marathons, is an avid sports fan. High school sports broadcaster in Cedar City and Provo on local radio.
