Police, fire and utilities need to be expanded as the city grows, said candidate Gene Mangum.

"We've got to deal with them on a priority basis because we don't have the money to do them all at once," he said.

Mangum has lived in Springville for 28 years.

Mapleton

In Mapleton mayoral race, Stan Sorensen is challenging what he calls an aristocracy.

Not true, said incumbent mayor Dean Allan, who is seeking a second term.

"I served 12 years with Springville City as economic development director," Allan said. "That's one of my goals. We will continue to look for businesses to be located to Mapleton."

Still, Allan wants to keep development off the mountainside, and preserve the community's rural feel. He has found that because of Mapleton's location on the Wasatch Front, businesses are not necessarily interested in moving to town.
