PLAIN CITY — When it comes to winning playoff football games on Fremont's home field, coach Blaine Monkres said there is no scientific formula. It just works.

"We like to play at home. We get a good crowd here. Our kids get fired up to play and it's tough to go on the road in the playoffs, so we just don't want to lose at home," Monkres said.

Whatever the reason, it worked again. The Silver Wolves defeated the Riverton Silverwolves 28-0 on Friday to remain unbeaten when hosting a playoff game. Fremont will get a chance to run the streak to nine games when the Silver Wolves host Alta next week in the state 5A quarterfinals.

In addition to the mystique of the streak, Fremont proved it deserved the victory with its action on the field. Led by quarterback Greydn Morin, who completed 14 of 28 passes for 292 yards and two touchdowns, the Silver Wolves had their way with the Riverton defense. Fremont set up two scores in the first half with big pass plays to Austin Raught and Taylor Proctor, then running back Travis Jones finished the drives with runs of 6 and 1 yards. A third score came on a 45-yard pass from Morin to Proctor to give Fremont a 21-0 halftime lead. Raught finished with two catches for 92 yards and Proctor finished with six catches for 78 yards. Jones also rushed for 69 yards.

Riverton was able to move the ball down the field, as it racked up 244 yards of offense, but never reached the goal line. The Silverwolves appeared to have something going in the second half as they drove from their own 3-yard line to inside the Fremont 10, consuming more than eight minutes and 16 plays, but they came up emptyhanded after a pair of penalties took them out of the red zone. It was too much to overcome and Riverton turned the ball over on downs. Monkres applauded the effort of his defense.

"The defense just came up and did a great job. We though we'd have trouble with their speed early, but we adjusted," Monkres said.

Riverton coach Mike Miller tipped his hat to Fremont. He said he was glad he didn't know about the home playoff win streak because it only would have scared him more while preparing for the contest.

"They are not a bad football team. They got some deep threats and we struggled with the deep ball today. They got the big pass when they needed it. We just got to get better," Miller said.
